MTV recently caught up with Green Lantern co-writer Marc Guggenhiem, who had a little bit of info to offer about a rumored scene in the upcoming Green Lantern movie in which mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent pops up for a look at the new superhero on the block.
According to Guggenhiem:
"There were rumors that Tom Welling would have a cameo in 'Batman Begins' as a young Clark Kent, to meet up with a young Bruce Wayne," Guggenheim noted. "But you have to be careful when you do things like that, because it sounds great in concept, but when you sit down to watch it, it poses the danger of pulling you out of the film."
When asked specifically about the GL/Supes cameo, Guggenhiem added:
"...Robert Downey, Jr. in 'The Hulk' was awesome. I love that stuff in general, and I think the fans would enjoy it. Brandon Routh or even Tom Welling [in 'Green Lantern'] would be awesome. And anything is possible. The beauty part of being the writer, though, is that I don’t actually have to make that judgment call."

Recent news from DarkHorizons reporting that George Miller was officially off the "Justice League" movie has now been proven to be false.
A representative from Kennedy Miller Mitchell has categorically denied the scoop and have confirmed that Miller did not appear on the ‘Sunrise Morning Show’ let alone discuss anything to do with "Justice League" or "Mad Max".
Rumors began months ago that Miller was leaving "Justice League" but were never confirmed and have now been officially shot down by his reps.
The 'League' project, more than practically any other project in the past two years, has suffered from incessant online rumors (most notably casting) that were often thrown up and later torn down. It seems that it has happened again here.
The original scooper, a usually reliable source, also seems to have vanished into the electronic ether. As for their current status? The KM rep says both 'League' and 'Max' are "being seriously worked on."

Actress Patricia Marand, who was nominated for a 1966 Tony Award for her portrayal of Lois Lane in the Broadway musical "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman" has passed away at her Manhattan home from brain cancer. She was 74.
Harold Prince directed the short-lived Charles Strouse musical, which starred Bob Holiday as Superman. As Lois Lane, Ms. Marand sang "It's Superman," "We Don't Matter at All," "What I've Always Wanted" and "I'm Not Finished Yet."
A statuesque redhead, Ms. Marand was born in Brooklyn on Jan. 25, 1934, to Patrick and Justine Marandino. She made her Broadway debut as a replacement performer in South Pacific. She was again directed by Joshua Logan in 1952's Harold Rome musical Wish You Were Here, which was set at Camp Karefree, a summer camp for adults, and featured an actual swimming pool on stage.
Known as much as a singer as an actress, she was active in the summer stock and concert circuit, performing with the Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, New Haven and Minneapolis symphony orchestras.
Her television and film appearances were minimal, though she did manage to make an appearance on a 2000 episode of "The Sopranos."
Her survivors include her husband Irving Salem.

Voices from Krypton owner & editor Ed Gross has dug into his archives and posted the following audio interview with "Superman IV: The Quest For Peace" director Sidney J. Furie.
The audio interview was conducted during the final stages of post-production on the film and at the time, Furie seemed extremely optimisitic about the film he was making. What follows are his feelings about the film prior to its release -- and apparently prior to the massive editing it ultimately underwent, which removed a number of elements from the final film.

After her successful co-directorial debut on "SUPERMAN: DOOMSDAY", Lauren Montgomery takes full command of the helm for "WONDER WOMAN", the next entry in the popular series of DC Universe animated original PG-13 films. Warner Premiere, DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation are set to release the all-new film on March 3, 2009.
In a recent interview, Montgomery discusses the upcoming "WONDER WOMAN" movie, her love of drawing, artistic influences on her style, lessons from Bruce Timm, and Cheetara's lonely place among female heroes. Here's an excerpt:
Question: You've gone from directing one-third of SUPERMAN DOOMSDAY to helming the entirety of WONDER WOMAN. What's that progression been like for you?
Montgomery: It's mostly in scale of responsibility. On DOOMSDAY, it was all about my one section of the film. Now, it's everything from background design and color to character design and camera angles, helping select the voices for the cast and approving every storyboard for the entire film. So it was all a lot harder. It's been an incredible learning experience, it's probably the most hands-on I've ever been on anything, and it's really prepared me for more of those responsibilities in the future.
Question: How did Michael Jelenic's script complement your approach to direction?
Montgomery: Michael Jelenic has really strong, entertaining ideas in his scripts. Seeing his first drafts really inspired me because there was a lot of action that showed her true strength. He told a story that captivated me the entire way. Beyond the action, Michael is good at interjecting a lot of humor -- Steve Trevor's sense of humor echoes Michael's in many ways. He also likes to write a lot of director-embellished action scenes, which didn't always make it easier on me. That's the one thing I'd like to punch him for. But otherwise, he did a great job.
Question: You said BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES was your awakening to superheroes and a career in action animation, and now you're directing the next generation of that genre of entertainment. What's it like to live your dreams?
Montgomery: It was surreal at first, but now it's just another day of work. I've kind of adapted to it. But every once in a while when I sit back and think about it, it's like, 'Here I am doing what I've been waiting my whole life to do.' And that's cool. Even on the days where it's hectic and there's intense schedules and the deadlines are looming, and I might be pulling my hair out, I know there's no other job that I would be happier doing.

Warner Premiere, the production arm of Warner Home Video, has engaged The Usual Suspects, X-Men and Superman Returns director Bryan Singer to make the first live-action film for web users.
The development of H+ will supplement Warner Premiere's roster of direct-to-DVD titles with a slate of original programs intended for digital platforms, The Hollywood Reporter states.
Warner Premiere's previous efforts on DVD and digital are mostly based on existing material - Batman, Peanuts and Watchmen - whereas H+ is new material.
H+ centers on the aftermath of an act of cyber terrorism that kills off a segment of the world population who elected to hardwire their brains to the Internet.
Executive producers and writers are John Cabrera and Cosimo De Tommaso, who first pitched the project to Singer's Bad Hat Harry Productions as a TV series but were persuaded to convert it to a digital-friendly format.
Still early in the development process, the distribution strategy, episode total and length has yet to be determined, though H+ should roll out before the end of 2009. No cast or director has been appointed to date.

"Smallville's" latest episode, "Bride," certainly ended with quite a punch to carry the series over into the new year, and the effects of those events will certainly be felt for a while to come. The principal impact however will be the introduction of a group of heroes from the DC future ... none other than The Legionnaires.
Saturn Girl (Imra Ardeen), Lightning Lad (Garth Ranzz) and Cosmic Boy (Rokk Krinn) will all join the series for the 2009 debut episode and will each arrive with a mission from Superman himself. Apparently the Man of Steel will send the trio back in time from the 31st Century to help resolve the current crisis in Metropolis, and while there, will also help Clark take another step closer to his destiny.
Of course this is not the eighth season's first foray into the larger DC universe as Maxima of Almerac already has been introduced and the Justice League are making their presence known in a somewhat semi-regular presence. Both have helped push Clark Kent towards becoming Superman. And like those characters, the Legionnaires will also don a contemporary variation of their comic book attire.
"Legion" was written by Geoff Johns and will air January 15th.

In town to chat about his upcoming turn as former US President Richard Nixon in “Frost/Nixon,” veteran stage and screen actor Frank Langella spared a few moments to chat with MTV News about the possibility of reprising his 2006 role in "Superman Returns" as one of comics' most famous editors-in-chief, Perry White.
"I have a very strong sense that there will be another 'Superman,' and that I will play Perry White in it," said Langella when asked about a potential return as the editorial chief of The Daily Planet.
"I don’t know when that will be and I don't know who the players will be in it," continued Langella. "I don’t even know if Bryan [Singer] will direct it, but I’m sure he’s considering it and [Warner Bros.] is talking back and forth about it.”
The character of Perry White, first introduced in the "Superman" radio serials in 1940 and then later into the comics, has had a longstanding part in developing the Man of Steel’s mythology — as both an outspoken supporter of his heroic deeds and as the employer of Superman's alter ego, Clark Kent. Langella's performance in "Superman Returns" followed in the footsteps of several other notable actors who portrayed the character, including Jackie Cooper ("Superman: The Movie") and Lane Smith ("Lois and Clark"), who coincidentally enough, also went on to play Richard Nixon in “"The Final Days."
"I agreed to do three [films]," said Langella. "Of course, Warners could decide they want Meryl Streep to play Perry White in it… for a different take."

Whether you want him back or not, Bryan Singer's name still keeps popping up as the possible director for the next Superman movie. Credited as the best X-Men movie director, many fans trashed his first effort at the man of steel saying "Superman Returns" was too full of angst and devoid of action.
While many reports talk of Warner Bros wanting to take a different and darker tact with the Superman franchise, and also liking the idea of dumping the last movie in favor of a reboot, other insiders still say Singer is involved. To clarify the matter, intrepid reporters at MTV asked him outright whether he was doing the deed, and here's what they got...
"At the moment I can’t really talk about that," said Singer. "I wish I could. From my perspective I’m going to take a brief pause. ["Valkyrie"] has taken a long time so I’m going to take a pause. A movie like that takes some time to do right. That’s all I can say about that."
So, to sum up, we basically STILL don't know whether he is involved or not.

Many fans agree that there were a lot of things wrong with "Superman Returns" — but the filmmakers did manage to find an actor with an uncanny resemblance to the late Christopher Reeve. Was casting Brandon Routh a good thing? Does that honor Reeve’s memory?
Not necessarily, said Reeve’s son Matthew, during a recent fundraising event to benefit the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.
"As far as we’re concerned, there’s only ever going to be one Superman," Matthew laughed.
So instead of worrying whether they should keep Routh or try to cast yet another actor who looks like Christopher Reeve in the upcoming reboot, Matthew suggested that Warner Bros. focus more on the story this next time around.
"There were lots of plot lines established, and it was very faithful to the original Donner films and sequels. I’d be curious to know how some of those plot lines in the last one will be continued or abandoned. If you look at 'The Dark Knight,' that was a phenomenal movie, and hopefully they can do something as good with the next version of this one."
Matthew’s advice, then, was this: "There are lots of fans of the comics and the films my dad did and the new one, and you can never please everyone. So just be original and creative and exciting, and I’m sure it will be successful."

Superman is the brainchild of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster who first envisioned the character in 1932 and later had his first appearance in Action Comics #1 in June 1938. What Jerry and Joe did not know at the time was that they had created a character that would become the signature icon of DC Comics and the most universally recognized hero in human history.
Since 1938, the character of Superman/Clark Kent has appeared in every imaginable media form including television, film, novelizations, and even a Broadway show.
Being Superman is the childhood fantasy of every little boy and girl (they of course want to be Supergirl). He is an enduring emblem of the American dream, the young immigrant who comes to the United States, embraces the culture and makes something of himself and enriches his adopted nation. He is a classical hero in the modern age who fights criminals, rescues the helpless and has a sense of morals and justice as strong and unshakeable as he is.
His homeworld was a planet called Krypton, a dying world. His parents, Jor-El and Lara hoping to save their son, placed his birthing matrix into a rocket and sent it to Earth so that he may live and could later use his abilities gained from the yellow sun to aid innocent life. Crash landing outside the town of Smallville, Kansas, the child was found and taken in by a farming couple. Jonathan and Martha Kent would become Kal-El's foster parents and raise him to the best of their ability. They named him Clark, and that name would become not only the link to his humanity but an alter ego that would help keep his loved ones from danger. As Clark grew into his teens, he found out more and more about his abilities, and as a young man he officially took on the guise of Superman thanks to a costume made by Martha from his swaddling clothes sent with him from Krypton.
By the time he was an adult he had gained the ability to fly, fire heat vision from his eyes and see through walls. From that point, he became the superhero we have all come to know and love. He became SUPERMAN!
