Try to imagine being in a vast ocean, sail in your own
boat and leaving the dirty and noisy city. It's a dream
of mine.
In the sea, sometimes it's calm but sometimes there are
with great wave. Sometimes there are some boats around you
and sometimes there is only you.
Our life is sometimes smooth, but sometimes it's hard. Sometimes
there are people that help you, and sometimes you are a
loner. However, the most important thing is to learn how
to struggle and survive in our life.
In the program, a group of students left their home and
sailed for 1,000 miles. They experienced the life of sailing
and learned more about foreign culture, such as limbo dancing
in Abacas.
At first, they were not very close to each other, but
later they became good friends. During the trip, they came
across problems both physically and psychologically. They
felt homesick or got bug bites. But the power of friendship
was so great and they solved the problems quickly.
The program was not only for entertainment, but it also
told us more about the environment. As the human have created
lots of pollution, the living environment is being destroyed.
More and more living things have become endangered species,
such as sharks, whales and turtles. I think it is an urgent
for us to protect the environment.
Moreover, I am really thankful for the "English in
the Air". It gives me lots of opportunities to learn
English. I think it's the most interesting way to learn
with fun and knowledge. The whole program has helped me
a lot and has become a teacher while I'm sailing in my life!

I always
think that the educational programs are boring and not interesting.
But I change my thinking after I've seen the program of 'English
In The Air' —'Sail Away'. It is amusing ten teenagers they
first meet with each other who will then spend five weeks
on a boat without family.
Watching
'Sail Away', I have lots of fun. For instance, eating terrible
shell fish – conch which I would never try, swimming with
sharks in a close distance, jumping off from 10m high cliff
which is killing me, going into a dark cave full of flying
bats which is full of scary, playing with 200 dolphins which
is so cool. They are so extraordinary that you may experience
once and ever in your life.
Among the ten teenagers, Alex is the
girl whom I like most because she has her character – tough
and strong. She overcomes homesick and gets along well with
the others. When she comes across exciting things like cliff
jump or bat cave visit, she can conquer her fears and goes
for it. I think this is not an easy job for her. Besides,
I admire the ten teenagers' courage and persistence on living
without shower, toilet flush, and TV throughout the five weeks.
If I were one of them, I wasn't sure if I would go through
it.
With
the program of 'English In The Air', I find that learning
English is no longer difficult, which is actually more fun
and much easier than before. From the resource package, I
know that there is an "Adventure Ship" in HK, which provides
similar training for young people so as to develop their potentials
and self-reliance as well as enhance their problem-solving
skills. I hope I can join its courses so that I can become
tougher to deal with problems and face challenges.

It's
time for viewers to waterproof their living rooms."Sail
Away" blasts out of the water and appears onto screens.
The five-week adventure of 10 youth leads the audience into
an extraordinary island expedition. Wonders of underwater
cities left me an unforgettable scene. It was just like looking
at a postcard, except that the fish found dancing among the
corals added vitality to this picture. If there were possibilities,
I'd like to take part in this expedition. Think how interesting
geography would be if you could see live photographs of the
islands you were learning about.
Besides gaining the basic skills of
sailing and understanding marine knowledge, I also learnt
how to express myself more clearly and decisively after seeing
the kids chatting confidently in front of video cameras. Confidence,
that's the ticket! Moreover, Charlotte, who was afraid of
heights taught me that,"It is possible to overcome our
fears. All it takes is self-determination" In the same
way, the on-line resources help me to adapt my needs too.
I was alarmed at what Aubrey said at
the end of the program,"People never appreciate friendships
or the ocean until it is too late" In one of the episodes,
I got a glance of the dead coral reefs and sadness rose in
my heart. In the modern age, people have become separated
from the nature, including me. I am glad that "Sail Away"
again creates environmental awareness and appreciation of
nature to the public: We should keep our faith to explore
and conserve the valuable marine resources, because the ocean
is one part of our life.
The series of "Sail Away"
never ends. Starting from now, I will play my role more meaningfully
in the community of nature, in order to see its past, feel
its present, and be involved in its future.
