Teen Life In America - School Presidents

In America, nearly every High School has a Student Council.

Student Councils usually do the following:

  • Have meetings with the Principal about school issues, such as the canteen and cleanliness.
  • Organise school dances.
  • Choose a charity to support for the year.
  • Help with festivals, such as Christmas.
  • Organise charity events, such as sponsored walks.
  • Help with Parents' Evenings
  • Organise elections for the President and Committee.

President
Each year, there is a new President. There is an election, which is similar to political elections. Students decide to be a candidate. They do many things to get other students to vote for them, such as holding coffee mornings.

A President is like a Senior Prefect in Hong Kong. Other students respect them.
