A
well-facilitated kitchen
Participants of the trip have to cook their own food because
there’s no tuck shop on the ship to sell them snacks or instant
noodles. There they get to take part in the full preparation
of their meals, which they may have little experience of at
home.
Choppers and chopping boards are available for them to cut
up their food and vegetables, and there is a washing up bowl
for them to wash the food and dirty dishes in. This kitchen
is basically as well-equipped as any other kitchen.
No
fire please
The main difference is that only rice-cookers, microwave ovens
and electric heaters are provided, instead of stoves with
town gas or LPG. This is because fire and open flames cannot
be used on the ship as a considerable amount of fuel is stored
(in the fuel tank). A meal cooked with electricity is just
as good as any other and overcoming problems is what the trip
is all about.
