Lizzie wants
to join the school cheerleading team. She wants to be
a cheerleader. So she goes for the try-out.
She believes
she has a chance. She hopes to make it. It turns out
she doesn't. She feels nothing can be worse.
She's wrong.
There is worse to come.
At the pep
rally, the school cheerleading team turns the whole
school against her. It makes her the big loser that
the whole school loves to hate.

| Miranda
Sanchez |
|
Miranda
tells Kate she started the rumour. Kate threatens to
get back at her. Miranda says she'll be around, whatever
happens.
To Miranda,
finally standing up to Kate the bully is fun. Also,
she feels she's able to handle conflicts well.
She hears
that Danny Kessler wants to see her. She's excited.
Then she
sees Lost Dog posters all over school. Her face is shown
on the posters. She's mad.

| Gordo |
|
Gordon has
a few thoughts to share.
It's evil
to force other people to be happy.
It's embarrassing
to require everyone to go to the pep rally (a meeting
before the school plays against another school in a
sports event).
He hates
the herd mentality that tells people what to wear, what
to watch, what to eat, what to ...
He knows
he can't handle brocolli, and so he's learned to avoid
it.

Kate hears
the rumour against her. She decides to find out who
started it. She wants to get back at the rumour-monger.
At the pep
rally, she decides to get the school cheerleading team
to chant:
U-G-L-Y
You've got no alibi.
You're ugly. You're ugly.
Who's the
"you" that they're talking about?

Jo, Dad Sam, Little Brother Matt |
|
Matt brings
the class project lizard home. He names the lizard Lizzie.
He also asks Jo and Sam to take care of her.
One day,
he comes home early from school with a treat for the
lizard. And, he finds that she's dead.
The McGuires
give a funeral service for the dead lizard in the backyard,
and then buries her. Then Sam starts to think that perhaps
the lizard is alive and well.
