Our World As Asia's World City, Hong Kong welcomes guests from all over the world, including Brazil.
Ciro Paiva comes from Brazil. He is living in Hong Kong for a year, studying at Pui Ying College in Shatin and staying with a family in Tai Po through AFS Intercultural Exchanges. Here are his thoughts on life in Brazil and Hong Kong.

Sport in Brazil

"We are football crazy! The streets are empty when Brazil is playing. Most people also stop work to watch TV. When we won the World Cup in 2002, the whole country went mad! People were letting off fireworks and shouting in the street.

People living on the coast play football on or near the beach. Everyone else plays in parks. I prefer playing tennis. Like Hong Kong, there are lots of courts around."

School Life in Brazil

"We wear a school T-shirt but there is no other uniform. I can wear jeans to school. Boys can also wear earrings if they like. We have a lot of choice of subjects. I can study science and arts subjects. Our teachers set homework but they leave it up to us to do it. They say we are old enough to know what is best. There are about 25 to 30 students in each class.

School is from 7.30a.m. to 12.30p.m. in Brazil because it's so hot. There is no air-con but Brazil is less humid so it's okay! I often do P.E. in the afternoon. Each term, we can choose a sport to play. Football, basketball, volleyball and handball are the most popular."

School Life in Hong Kong

I study at Pui Ying College. The school has lots of facilities, like computers and projectors. AFS had an Intercultural Fair at my school in January. About 900 students came. It was great to share my culture with them.

Many students play basketball after school. There is also a really good 'dai pai dong' (outdoor restaurant) near the school. I like to go there with my friends.

I will miss Hong Kong when I go home in June."
