Sharing and Collaboration - Education towards the Future

In an increasingly media centric society, social networking platforms, such as weblogs or wikis, are becoming valuable tools in learning. They are changing the way in which we share and disseminate information. Universities are using wiki sites to enable students collaborate on projects and even our own primary school employs a weblog to further stimulate and enrich our school’s language environment. The school’s English Blog furnishes students with an informal environment to share ideas in English without the pressures of correction and assessment. The website provides students with an authentic language setting to practise and develop their language skills.

Our learning experiences, for students and teachers, are no longer limited to the physical world of schools and classrooms as more time outside of class is spent online. Therefore, by adopting such technologies as the weblog and online learning platforms, we can broaden the scope of support for our students’learning needs.

教师写Blog 开拓教学与分享空间

在网络年代,人人都能在网志(Blog)上发表意见,很多学生和老师都拥有个人网志。可是,大家可有想过,网志也能成为提升学生语文水平的工具,以及帮助师生建立沟通桥梁?

不少家长和老师也许都曾浏览子女或学生的网志,发现他们皆热衷在网志表达自己的见解与感受;但行文每多中、英文单字、口语与符号夹杂的时下网络用语,读来叫人似懂非懂。

有监于此,有些学校就构思设立「教师周记」网志,由中英语文科老师发挥本身的文学修养与语文能力,撰文谈人生,或分享诗歌散文,让学生有机会接触切合本 身兴趣及文笔流丽的作品;并鼓励学生以中文书面语或英文回应,老师则从中引导学生正确地遣词用字,以潜移默化的方式,提升他们的语文能力。

学校英文科老师与外籍英语教师在网志上,与学生分享英语幽默故事;阅读哈里波特的心得;介绍外国的生活与风土人情,并邀请外国朋友留言,学生反应十分热烈。

由于效果理想,校内其它老师受到鼓舞,纷纷参与写作「教师周记」。学校发现,透过教师撰写网志,能达到勉励学生和培养正确价值观的作用。当老师在课堂上 苦口婆心地劝告学生时,由于气氛比较拘谨和严肃,他们常把老师的肺腑之言当作耳边风;透过网志,反而可以打开师生沟通之门,得到学生积极的回应。

有校长与副校长在网志上分享年轻时面对成长与挫败的迷惘,令不少学生感同身受,留言回应。一位老师则分享自己「其实也很喜欢打机」的爱好,产生很大回 响;有学生更谈到成功「爆机」后的空虚感觉,老师就在网志上以软性文字劝勉同学「不要玩物丧志」。另一位老师则通过分享电影观后感,与学生谈与人相处之 道。

一般而言,学生对师长的成长经历都感兴趣,透过网上空间,师生间能真情对话,许多平时不易启齿的说话,都可以透过网志互相传达,对增进师生间的了解及培养学生对学校的归属感方面大有帮助。

网志等新一代资讯科技工具的即时回应、简单操作及强互动特性,在教育应用上有无限发展潜能,许多教学方法仍有待发掘和验证。教育局并将推出语文科教师网志推广计划,提供培训。我们鼓励更多老师与家长善用网志,与年轻人共建一片教学相长与互相关怀的天空!

分享生活时事 提升语文能力 师生互blog打破隔膜

网志(blog)在港愈来愈流行,撰写blog更是不少学生每天指定动作,有学校今年三月设立桝师网志,由教师分别以中英文撰写生活点滴及社会时事,吸引学生多读多写多撰文回应,增进师生沟通之余,又可提高学生语文能力,至今累积逾四万一千次点击。桝育局计划把网志教学推广至全港学校,并与电讯网络商商讨让学生以优惠价使用网上服务。

裘锦秋中学(屯门)副校长刘志勤表示,去年底美国《时代》杂志选出作为互联网使用者的「你」作为风云人物,启发学校加强把网上资源融入桝学,三月初正式设立教师周记网志,由语文科教师撰文,以不同题材写blog,由学生加以回应,多个月来累积一百一十篇文章,内容有生活琐事、社会时事、个人感受及诗词歌赋等,学生回应达一千五百个。

「我一开计算机就上去睇老师个blog,了解老师多刋,又可以学好英文。」中六学生蔡咏虹差不多每天都会浏览班主任徐启泰的网志,她指透过网志互相了解,师生隔膜逐渐打破,遇到不懂的英文生字,她会即时查字典,顺道学好英语,一举两得。

教育局研发网志平台

每隔两、三天会更新网志的徐启泰坦言,写网志所需的时间不多,却得到意想不到的效用:「每篇都有同学回应,佢写错字、有咩意见,又可以効堂上讨论。」现时全校教师及校长均已加入写blog行列,学校亦加入学生会活动、好书介绍等不同题材的网志,未来更会透过网志加强通识课程。

教育局高级课程发展主任(资讯科技桝育)程国柱称,当局将斥资二亿元深化学校的资讯科技教育,当中包括推动网志教学计划,将举行教师工作坊及研讨会,让教师掌握网志教学技巧。程国柱又指出,教育局正研发网志平台供学校使用,改善网上保安、稳定性等问题。教育局亦与社福团体推动计算机送赠服务,以及与网络商商讨让学生以优惠价用网上服务。

Blog bridges student-teacher divide

One resourceful school has harnessed blogging to enhance student-teacher communication, writes Wendy Wong

Despite controversy over the blogging habits of youngsters, a school has demonstrated that a web log can be used as analternative communication channel between teachers and students.

The“Teachers’Blog”is a section on the website of Ju Ching Chu Secondary School (Tuen Mun) (裘锦秋中学 (屯门)), where the school’s principal and teachers share with students their writing on different topics regularly.

Being popular among both teachers and students, it has already had a cumulative (累计的) hit rate of 30000 since its establishment six months ago.

“In the past, students submitted their journals every week and teachers would give them feedback. With the‘Teachers’Blog’, the positions have been swapped (交换). Students can leave comments on the blog,”said Mr. Lau Chi-Ken (刘志勤), the school’s vice principal. “It encourages two-way communi cation and help students to develop a sense of belonging to the school.”

Smoother interaction

WONG Wai-chung said he had“discovered another side of the teachers”after reading their personal stories Lo Hok-him (卢学谦), a blogger himself, said he would write down his thoughts on his own personal blog when inspired by the thoughts shared by the teachers. They are two of the most frequent visitors to the site.

The teachers are happy to have successfully reached out to the students. Chinese teacher Miss Chan Sze-kai (陈思佳) said:“the advantage of interacting with students using web-logs is that it isn’t a one-way teaching method. Besides, it’s also better thantakingadidactic (教训的)approach to moraleducation because teachers can act as role models by sharing with students these ordinary daily happening that should be shared by all in life. All these can’t be done easily in the classroom."

Chosen as a “Centre of Excellence"(资讯科技教育卓越中心) by the Education Bureau, the school had been thinking of ways to harness information technology in education.

Mr. Lau said:“We are aware of the controversy (争议) in the education sector aboutyoungsters’meaningless rantsonline. But we also believe the web log is a useful tool. It just depends onwhether the users use it correctly."
